Gharchola- the bridal homecoming saree forms the traditional wedding attire for most of the Gujarati brides till today. Not only in India even globally located Gujaratis, follow their deep-rooted cultural norms when it comes to such auspicious and significant life events. One such gorgeous desi girl living on the other side of the globe got her dream wedding outfit through the dedicated video shopping service of saree.com. Jahnvee currently lives in the United States of America and recently tied the knot. She had been looking for a traditional Gharchola for her D-day and she had shortlisted a few options from our designer saree collection.
What’s so special about a Gharchola?
Given the wide assortment of bridal saris and contemporary bridal lehengas available today, it is indeed their love for the Indian culture and the beauty of traditions that a lot of NRI brides till date prefer such ethnic bridal wear. A Gharchola forms the wedding staple for Gujarati and Rajasthani brides. Woven with cotton or silk yarns, the body of these sarees is divided into squares and each square is decorated with ethnic forms. Apart from precise weaving with golden zari threads, the making of a Gharchola involves a series of tedious resist dyeing processes or intricate embroidery which makes each of these drapes a masterpiece product of skilled craftsmanship.
Following the traditional colour palette of red and green, the gorgeous bride-to-be Jahnvee chose a Gharchola that was generously detailed with hand-embroidery of colourful threads and mirror work. 45 days before her wedding, Jahnvee had a video call with saree.com’s in-house stylist and inquired about a product on the online catalogue which was at that point of time, not in stock. She checked similar options and got an idea about the fabrics and look of such drapes in general. With her heart set on the one which was not available, saree.com arranged for exactly the same Gharchola and delivered her wedding saree with a customized blouse within 30 days, well in time for her D-day!
Apart from her wedding saree, the beautiful bride-to-be also ordered a couple of other silk sarees and a Banarasi sari as a part of her wedding trousseau.
